Lewis & Laura’s Beautiful Cambridge Wedding at South Farm
Lewis & laura
Thereβs something truly special about a wedding at South Farm in Cambridgeshire, and Lewis and Laura’s day was the perfect example of why this venue remains one of my favourites.
Nestled amongst beautiful gardens, restored barns and rolling countryside views, South Farm offers a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere whilst still feeling incredibly unique. With its charming Summer House, Tudor Barn and picturesque grounds, every corner provides a beautiful backdrop for a wedding celebration.
A Love Story That Started at School
During a warm spring Sunday at the end of April, Laura and Lewis celebrated their beautiful wedding at South Farm in Cambridgeshire, surrounded by family, friends and the stunning countryside setting that makes this venue so special. As a South Farm wedding photographer, it was a joy to capture every moment of their relaxed and joy-filled day.
What made this wedding even more special was the story behind it. Laura and Lewis have known each other since their school days, growing up together before becoming childhood sweethearts. Their wedding felt like the perfect celebration of a relationship built on years of friendship, love and shared memories (and cake).
The red and navy colour palette complemented the venue beautifully, adding a timeless elegance to the celebrations while working perfectly against the natural backdrop of South Farm’s gardens and barns.
One of the most personal touches of the day was Lewis baking the wedding cake himself, which made the celebrations feel even more meaningful and unique to them as a couple. They also chose to write and exchange their own vows, adding so much emotion and authenticity to the ceremony. In a lovely twist, they walked down the aisle together rather than having a traditional procession, setting the tone for a relaxed and truly personal celebration from the very start.
Ducklings, Goats and Buttercup the Donkey
It was wonderful to be back at South Farm, one of Cambridgeshireβs most characterful wedding venues. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by adorable ducklings wandering through the grounds.
The venueβs resident animals always add something special to the day. Guests loved meeting the goats and the incredibly cute baby donkey, Buttercup. At one point, it honestly felt easier to find the donkey than some of the guests, who were happily enjoying the sunshine across the gardens.
The couple even braved heading into the pig pen to feed the piglets, which quickly became one of the highlights of the day.
Relaxed Drinks Reception and Garden Games
One of the things I loved most about this wedding was just how relaxed everything felt. There was no rush or pressure, just family and friends enjoying each otherβs company in the spring sunshine.
Guests spent the afternoon sipping drinks, chatting, playing garden games and enjoying the beautiful countryside setting. The atmosphere reflected Laura and Lewis perfectly β warm, welcoming and focused on spending time with the people they love most.
Entertainment throughout the drinks reception was a huge hit. A magician from the Magic Circle amazed guests with close-up tricks that created plenty of laughter and disbelief.
Alongside this, a guest singer provided a beautiful live soundtrack to the afternoon, adding to the laid-back and joyful atmosphere.
Milo Steals the Show
No wedding is complete without a special appearance from a beloved pet, and Lewis and Laura’s dog Milo was very much part of the day.
Not only did he proudly carry the rings on his collar, but he also joined in for portraits later on and absolutely stole the show. Itβs always lovely to see couples include their dogs, and Milo brought so much personality and energy to the celebration.
Exploring the Beautiful Grounds of South Farm
South Farm offers endless opportunities for beautiful wedding photography, and we made the most of the venueβs stunning surroundings throughout the day.
From colourful gardens and winding pathways to open countryside views, every corner provides a natural and relaxed backdrop. The soft spring light and vibrant colours made everything feel even more picturesque.
Natural and Candid Couple Portraits
When it came to portraits, Laura and Lewis wanted photographs that felt natural, relaxed and true to them.
Using a mix of gentle prompts, movement and light-hearted moments, we kept everything easy-going and fun. This approach helps couples forget about the camera and simply enjoy time together, which always leads to the most genuine images.
Many couples tell me they feel nervous about being photographed, which is exactly why I focus on keeping things relaxed, unposed and natural.
Celebrating Childhood Sweethearts
As the sun continued to shine across the Cambridgeshire countryside, family and friends gathered to celebrate two people whose story began many years ago at school and had now come full circle in the most beautiful way.
From ducklings and donkey cuddles to garden games, magic tricks and sunshine-filled celebrations, Laura and Lewis created a wedding day that perfectly reflected who they are as a couple β relaxed, fun-loving and completely devoted to one another.
Lewis and Laura, thank you for trusting me to capture your incredible wedding day. It was an absolute pleasure to document such an important chapter in your story, and I wish you both a lifetime of happiness together.
Kind Words
“Polly was the photographer for our wedding day. If you are looking for a relaxed, fun and not ‘stiff’ photo shoot, she is the one for you. A lot of portfolios start the blur into one another but Polly’s had some really creative shots no matter the weather!
She made 2 very camera shy people feel relaxed on their own day, without missing a single thing. While we managed to get some formal shots at the start, our couple shots included some games so that it did not feel forced but instead just capturing the joy!
We have already been inundated with compliments from the guests about how Polly was able to integrate so well and was a ninja so never interrupted what was going on while ensuring we will be able to look back and see what we missed when we in other places! We wholeheartedly recommend her!”
